Application deadline: April 30, 2012
The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (ECA/A/S/X) and is implemented by IREX (the international Research & Exchange Board), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization. ECA/A/S/X will provide the funding and overall policy guidance for this program
ECA/A/S/X is planning to bring approximately 75 international teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), social studies, math or science to the United States for a semester-long (5 months) professional development program beginning in January of 2013. Teachers will be placed in cohorts of about 15 teachers at five U.S. universities that will be selected through a competitive process.
The program will consist of academic seminars focusing on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and teaching strategies and instructional technology training. All participants will receive a technology allowance to purchase laptops or other technology tools. Participants will audit two courses in the host university’s School or Department of Education, and thus will be part of the general university community. If necessary, candidates will also receive ongoing English language assistance during their academic program. The program will also include a minimum 90 hours internship in a U.S. secondary school to actively engage participants in the U.S. classroom environment. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided to participants throughout the program. MACEE will nominate 10 teachers for this program but it is subject to funding from U.S. Department of State.
