Here's your chance to explore and experience the States for a full 6 weeks! The 2012 Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) program is now taking in applications and will remain open until November 25, but don't delay!

New Media in Journalism
The Institute on New Media in Journalism will consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures for a group of 25 students from three participating countries i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The workshops will be held in classrooms and computer labs on the Ball State campus. On-site media visits are planned at The New York Times, The Indianapolis Star, Voice of America, Indiana Public Radio, National Public Radio, and WRTV-TV. The program will be complemented by an educational tour that will include visits to Detroit, Gettysburg, New York and Washington, D.C.

Participants of the Study of the U.S. Institute on New Media in Journalism will study freedom of the press and freedom of speech as defined by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, media law and ethics, and the role of journalism in a democratic society.

Global Environmental Issues
The Institute on Global Environmental Issues will consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures for a group of 25 students from four participating countries i.e. Burma, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The program includes four weeks of academic residency component complemented by a 4-day educational tour to San Francisco where participants will meet with local, state, private, and nonprofit organizations working in the field. The Institute will then conclude with a 3-day program in Washington, D.C.

The Institute will use experiential learning techniques to expose participants to current themes in the field, including natural resource management, sustainable development/sustainable agricultural practices, food security, ecotourism, energy generation (new and traditional forms), and water management and treatment.
