Georgia College Merit-and Need-Based Scholarships

Georgia College offers numerous programs of study to talented and motivated students in a residential college setting. Its academically engaging, student-centered programs often take learning beyond the traditional classroom and develop the intellectual, professional, and civic skills and dispositions that enable graduates to thrive in an information-intensive and diverse global society.

Georgia College offers international student scholarships to students based upon extracurricular involvement, academic excellence and financial need. This award grants either a half waiver or full waiver for out-of-state tuition fees and ranges in the amount of amount $20,000 to $40,000 over the course of four years. Full time undergraduate students who will pursue their degree at Georgia College & State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Howard Hughes Medical Institute Pre-Doctoral Fellowships Open Doors for International Students

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has awarded more than $2 million in fellowships to 50 promising graduate students from 19 countries. The fellowships are designed to fund the students’ graduate education at a pivotal point in their scientific careers - a sink or swim time when they delve into intense laboratory research for their doctoral dissertations. “Being an international student, it is virtually impossible to find fellowships that fully support my stipend, not to mention the educational allowance that is a luxury for most Ph.D. students,” said Elisa Araldi a student from Italy who is studying macrophage biology at New York University’s Sackler Institute. She hopes her research will provide an innovative perspective on cellular interactions in tumors. “Part of my project involves very sophisticated and expensive experiments and this fellowship will allow me to perform more experiments, since my lab does not have to pay for my stipend. This award gives me confidence in the risky project that I am carrying on,” she said.

Getting into U.S. Medical Schools as an International Student

Promise, a Nigerian freshman biology major studying at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, blogs about the hurdles awaiting him when the time comes to apply to medical school in the United States. Kellogg Institute for International Studies Fellowships

The Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies brings the best of interdisciplinary inquiry to bear on research themes relevant to contemporary societies around the world, especially democracy and human development. Drawing faculty fellows from across the University, students, and visiting scholars, the Institute promotes research, provides exceptional educational opportunities for students, and builds linkages to support the University’s strategic goals on internationalization. The Kellogg Institute creates a space where those interested in international affairs can engage—with one another and with issues crucial to human society. Known for its regional focus on Latin America, the Institute has in recent years widened its scope to include Africa, Asia, and beyond.

The Kellogg institute is offering fellowships to scholars and practitioners who conduct international research on themes of democracy and/or human development. Applicants may come from any country and typically fall into three groups: promising junior and midcareer scholars (typically postdocs and assistant or associate professors), distinguished senior scholars with an established record of scholarly excellence, accomplished policy makers, journalists, and other practitioners whose knowledge and experience can link policy and scholarship. Oregon State University Provost International Merit Scholarships

Oregon State University welcomes a diverse student body of nearly 25,000 students from across Oregon, all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Students choose from over 200 undergraduate and 80 graduate degree programs, including 20 full online degrees. Oregon State University increasingly attracts high-achieving students, with nationally recognized programs in areas such as conservation biology, agricultural sciences, nuclear engineering, forestry, fisheries and wildlife management, community health, pharmacy and zoology.

Oregon State University is offering The Provost International Scholarship to exceptional international first-year and transfer students. Award amounts vary and are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study with specific renewal requirements to be met by recipients. Minimum eligibility requirements at the time of application for non-resident freshman is a 3.75 GPA or 1800+ SAT/26 to 28 ACT and transfer students must have a 3.75 GPA and 36 or more college credit hours.

Arizona State University David McHugh Scholarship for Exercise Science and Related Studies

Arizona State University is a public research university located in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area of Arizona. Since 2003, ASU has increased the number of high-level faculty members and experts on campus with the addition of 156 new award recipients, fellows or academy members. Arizona State University is offering the David McHugh Scholarship for Exercise Science and Related Studies. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be admitted and enrolled as full‐time students and majoring in any of the following fields: Applied Science (Wellness), Cardiac Rehabilitation, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Exercise and Wellness, Exercise and Wellness (Health Promotion), Nutrition. Leeward Community College International Student Scholarship

Located in Pearl City, Hawai‘i, Leeward CC is a regional community center, creating both an environment for academic learning and a center of cultural life for our neighbors. Hiram College Merit-Based Scholarships

Hiram is a coeducational liberal arts college of about 1,300 men and women located in the historic Western Reserve region of Ohio. Hiram is a nationally respected institution that offers students a distinct learning environment with an emphasis on close student-faculty interactions, international study experiences, and experiential learning environments.

Hiram College offers merit-based scholarships to international applicants who are eligible to compete for merit-based scholarships. For on-campus residents, scholarships range up to a maximum of $21,000 per year. For commuter students, they range up to a maximum of $16,000 per year. Scholarships are renewable annually for up to four years of study. To receive full consideration, a completed application for admission should be received no later than February 15 for the fall intake and no later than October 1 for the spring intake.

Asian Women in Business Scholarship

The Asian Women In Business Scholarship encourages and promotes exceptional Asian female students who have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, community service and/ or entrepreneurship.

Amount:  $2,500

Deadline:  October 1, 2012

Eligibility:

Asian women (50% Asian) who fulfill the following criteria will be considered:

1. Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry (includes those who can trace their ancestry from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam)

Menlo College Merit-Based Scholarships

Auburn University Graduate Assistantships

Auburn University's mission is defined by its land-grant traditions of service and access. Auburn University offers assistantships to eligible international graduate students. To be considered for assistantships, students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program, register for at least one course and satisfy the minimum course load specifications of the individual departments. International graduate students on F1 visas cannot hold a greater than 50 percent work appointment. Multiple assistantships for international graduate students cannot add up to more than a 50 percent work appointment.

The National Humanities Center Fellowships

The National Humanities Center is the only major independent American institute for advanced study in all fields of the humanities. It provides a national focus for the best work in the liberal arts, drawing attention to the enduring value of ancient and modern history, language and literature, ethical and moral reflection, artistic and cultural traditions, and critical thought in every area of humanistic investigation. Outstanding scholars from across the United States and more than thirty other nations have been awarded fellowships for advanced study at the National Humanities Center. The Center annually admits forty fellows, who represent a broad range of ages, disciplines, and home institutions. Individually, the fellows pursue their own research and writing and together, create a stimulating community of intellectual discourse.

The National Humanities Center offers international fellowships for advanced study. Applicants must submit the Center's application and financial forms supported by a curriculum vitae, a 1,000-word project proposal, a one-page tentative outline of chapters, a short bibliography, and three letters of recommendation. The University of Illinois Springfield Global Partner Award

The University of Illinois Springfield, approximately 200 miles southwest of Chicago, was established in 1969 by the Illinois General Assembly. Since its establishment, approximately 5,000 students enroll each year and choose majors from among the 23 bachelor’s degree programs, 20 master’s degree programs and 1 doctoral program offered.

The University of Illinois Springfield is now offering a new merit award, the Global Partner Award, for high-achieveing international undergraduate students (both freshman and transfer applicants) with a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. These awards range from $2000 to $4000 per year (renewable each year), and are in addition to existing merit awards of $2500 to $5500 per year based on both GPA (min. 2.75) AND ACT/SAT score.

EASTERN MENNONITE UNIVERSITY ALUMNA RECEIVES THE NOBEL PRIZE

Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) alumna Leymah Gbowee received the Nobel Prize for her work in organizing a peace movement to end the Second Liberian Civil War. She has also become famous across the globe for mobilizing women. In 2006-07, she was in residence at EMU as she finished her master’s degree in conflict transformation.

The University of New Mexico In-State Tuition Scholarships

Founded in 1889 as New Mexico’s flagship institution, the University sits in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area of more than 900,000 people. From the magnificent mesas to the west, past the banks of the historic Rio Grande to the Sandia Mountains to the east, Albuquerque is a blend of culture and cuisine, styles and stories, people, pursuits and panoramas.

The University of New Mexico offers the Amigo Scholarship to first-time international graduate students which allows them to pay in-state tuition rates and receive a $200 stipend per academic year. The Amigo Scholarship is a tuition-specific award and does not convert to a cash award if the recipient’s tuition is covered by other means, such as an assistantship or scholarship.

12 Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships from PSD

KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships are on offer this year to outstanding Malaysians to do their Masters and Doctorate (Phds) at local and foreign universities.

They will be awarded to candidates with excellent academic results in Science and Technology, Economy and Law, said a statement from the Public Service Department.

 

“Priority is given to students who have secured a place at a local or world-renowned university, besides displaying exemplary academic results at the undergraduate or Masters level. 

 

“Ideally, candidates should possess a flair for languages and a love for social work or have produced creative and innovative works.”

 

The scholarships, which have been offered since 2006, is open to Malaysians aged 30 years and below, with emphasis placed on those who obtained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75, first class honours or its equivalent.

 

“Scholarship recipients must return to Malaysia and serve the country for not less than five years on completing their studies.”

 

The students will receive allowances throughout their studies while fees will paid directly to their respective universities. 

 

Last year, 12 students were awarded the scholarship to do courses such as Actuarial Science, Engineering, Biotechnology and Law at distinguished universities in Australia and the United Kingdom. 

 

Applications are open from today to July 13 and forms can be submitted through www.jpa.gov.my or http://esila.jpa.gov.my.

Bond

• Scholars are required to serve a bond with company offering the scholarship for a minimum of 3-4 years. The bond will start immediately upon completion of degree course.
• Scholar will be required to work in the sponsor company or any subsidiaries within OYL Group Malaysia.
• Scholars are also required to perform their internship in the sponsor company or at any subsidiaries within OYL Group Malaysia during semester break.

International Students Celebrate Fourth of July

For many students, the Fourth of July is a holiday they have celebrated for years, but for international students,such as Zadran, the experience is still fairly new. When Zuleikha Zadran came to the U.S. at the age of 13, it was the war in Afghanistan that pushed her family to leave.
