Financial Aid - Anderson University
International Scholarship The International Scholarship is an “IMPACT” award. These funds are designed to assist students with high need who will have a positive impact on our community.
- It is highly competitive.
- The funds for this come both from friends and alumni donations and the University budget.
- It is a "pool" fund. A specific amount of money is available for each year. Once the needs of continuing students are met, then we know the amount available to new students each year.
- All completed applicants are ranked, and the top three are awarded to meet their need.
- Characteristics in the ranking include but are not limited to: SAT/ACT score, anticipated major, country of origin, anticipated involvement on campus, leadership experience, athletics, connection to the University (alumni, church, etc.), and date of application completion.
- This is one of the ways we are intentional about developing a very diverse and impactful international student body, with 69 students from 25 countries.
- Beyond the top three we look at perhaps the next 15 or 20 and try to award as many as we can. For this reason, underestimating your own ability for funding can hurt your chances for this scholarship.
- Complete the application
- Submit your SAT or ACT scores
- Complete the essay
- Complete as thoroughly and honestly the International Financial aid Application

INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AT WHITMAN COLLEGE
Whitman College does offer scholarships to international students. Competition for these scholarships is very keen. In a typical year we offer approximately 20 scholarships from a pool of approximately 300 international applicants. Scholarships are awarded to the top applicants based upon their academic and extra-curricular achievements in secondary school and on their financial need. We do not regularly offer international scholarships to transfer students.
The Whitman Admission Committee is need-aware when evaluating international applications. This means that we consider the CSS Profile when we review your application for admission. This does not mean, however, that we do not admit students with high financial need. In fact, the average financial aid package is quite generous. As most admitted international students have high need, and Whitman international scholarship funds are not unlimited, we must review financial aid information at the same time that we review your application for admission
Financial aid money is only available for students applying to begin at Whitman for the fall semester using the Regular Decision process. First-year and Early Decision international applicants are only allowed to apply early or for the spring term if they are not applying for financial aid. If you are applying for financial aid, you must apply for admission for the fall term.
Once a student is selected to receive a scholarship the actual amount awarded will vary depending upon the student's financial need. For the 2010 - 2011 school year international student scholarship awards ranged between US$2,500 and US$45,000. The full cost of attending Whitman for the 2010 - 2011 school-year is approximately US$49,890 for international students. This includes tuition, fees, room, board, health insurance, and a US$1,400 estimate for books and supplies. The awards are renewable for four years of study, and will increase slightly each year as the cost of tuition changes. Students and families who are applying for financial aid must fill out the CSS Profile. Whitman's code for the Profile is 4951. You and your family should consider the larger picture of all four years of study in the United States, including transportation costs. Our budget for international student aid is limited and our ability to increase your scholarship other than to cover the increase in tuition each year is extremely limited. Travel costs are not covered by financial aid.
Most international students work on-campus while attending school. Under U.S. law you can work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session and up to 40 hours per week during holidays and breaks. About half of our international students remain on campus during the summer to work and earn the funds necessary to help pay for their education. During the school year you can earn approximately US$2,500 and an additional US$4,000 during the summer.
Financial Aid - Reed College
All financial aid at Reed is granted on the basis of demonstrated financial need. We offer no academic or athletic scholarships. Need is determined through an assessment of your family's financial resources and ability to contribute toward the total cost of your education. This assessed family contribution is subtracted from the total cost of tuition, fees, room and board, books, incidental expenses, and a travel allowance. The amount remaining is your demonstrated financial need.
Even though Reed is an independent college, funds from the United States government provide a significant portion of a student's financial aid package. These funds are available only to students who are U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status in the U.S. As a result, when Reed offers financial aid to international students, the entire package is composed of Reed funds. Since our funds are limited, we can only offer financial aid to approximately 20 to 25 international students each year. In a typical year, 150 to 200 qualified international freshman and transfer applicants compete for these few awards. For applicants who demonstrate need, Reed will admit only those who also receive financial aid awards. All offers of financial assistance include grants, work opportunities, and loans. Loans must be repaid to the college.

Financial Aid for International Students, Oberlin College , USA
Oberlin is privileged to be one of the few American colleges and universities able to offer substantial financial assistance to international students. As an institution committed to ethnic, experiential, and economic diversity, Oberlin provides grants, scholarships, loans, and on-campus employment to enable international students to meet all demonstrated financial need. More than 80 percent of our international students receive institutional financial aid, with the average aid package covering about three-quarters of the cost of attendance.
The international financial aid budget is not unlimited. Consequently, the international admission process is extremely competitive—particularly for students with high financial need. Fewer than 15 percent of international applicants are admitted in a typical year.
